: Germany´s council presidency
Germany will take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2020. Safeguarding codetermination is a stated goal of the German government, in particular as regards cross-border transfers of seat. The Council presidency should therefore be used to protect and strengthen codetermination and workers' participation at the European level: after all, social partnership works only on an equal footing. Existing national and European law is simply not up to the job of safeguarding codetermination. The best approach would be a framework directive on information, consultation and participation.
